In 1999, Marcel Kohler began realizing his long-cherished dream of creating his own cryopump in Balzers. His enthusiasm for these technologies was shared by Herbert Vogt, the current managing director. At that time, all renowned cryopump manufacturers were located outside Europe. After extensive preliminary investigations, they took on the venture together. The goal was to build a cryopump tailored for optical process applications, which had been a preferred application area for diffusion pumps until then. In 2001, the globally established company HSR AG was founded.
